Catherine Meili, LCPC is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor at Vitality Counseling. Catherine attended DePaul University to earn her B.A. in Psychology with a concentration in Human Services and minor in Philosophy. She then attended Adler University for her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Her experience has mostly been in community mental health settings treating a range of clinical presentations.
Catherine understands how facing the reality of painful emotions and situations in a person’s life can evoke significant feelings of vulnerability which can be very intimidating. Catherine strongly believes in the emotionally corrective experience people stand to benefit from in counseling by receiving unconditional positive regard and acquiring coping/life skills in the context of a secure, validating therapeutic alliance. As a therapist, she follows Malcolm X’s philosophy of “by any means necessary.” This means modifying and adapting her therapeutic approach to meet clients where they’re at and then help them take steps towards achieving what might have seemed out of reach for so long: decreased suffering and increased fulfillment in their lives.
Catherine specializes in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and applying that theory to treating people struggling with depressive, anxious, and trauma disorders. When the “therapist hat” comes off, Catherine enjoys going for walks around her neighborhood in Rogers Park, rollerblading or ice skating, watching any variety of shows on Hulu or Netflix, photography and other art/craft hobbies.
